Four seasons in the Pacific Northwest

There are four seasons here.  Some seasons last here longer, but any case we do have four seasons. This is a small list I made for each season.

For Winter

Winter is  December through February, and sometimes it might linger until March and April, depending on if you are from a cool climate or hot climate.  Few things that might be of comfort include:

Winter boots- make sure they have a good bottom since there is such thing as black ice here.  If you are going to be walking, taking a bus to commute, you would be walking on pavements.  Some winters, the pavements can get icy.
Wool socks – you should have a minimum of three because you will be wearing them more often than you think.
Parka jacket
One warm scarf is sufficient, two or three can be nice in case if you get one of your scarves drenched.
Hats and caps.  People have knitted scars.  They are nice and keep you warm.  If you want to be fashionable, there are few other kinds, but make sure you have an umbrella.
Umbrella – most locals avoid because they haven’t been able to maneuver the northwest winds.
Gloves
When you are not wearing winter boots, might want to try for some non-skid shoes.
Loads of hot cocoa- This is not a gear, but I assure you would be glad you have some stocked in your cabinet, on those chilly, chilly days.  As many coffee shops are here, there are some days; you wouldn’t want to leave the house.  You just want to bundle up with your hot cocoa or whatever your drink of choice.

For Spring

Good books
Sunglasses – Your eyes are so used to the dark, and finally when you see the light, wheew, it’s like a loud shrill.
By February- the dark October, November, December, January, and February cloudy days will wear your body out, so you will need a vacation plan to somewhere warm.  Even if you don’t plan to leave, it is nice to plan a vacation.
Spring Jacket – This jacket is like a combo rain jacket and a raincoat.

Good books
At least three good blankets – one for your couch, one for your bed, and one for where your favorite seat in the house.
Good lights-  It gets dark by October, and some days you might not see the sun for days. It’s hard to track how many days I haven’t seen the sun in the winter. I have a few yellow cups to pretend its the sun.
Back up place to stay In case if the tree branches fall.  Yes, mother nature is everywhere.

For Summer

Best place on earth – a little exaggeration, not really.
Come as you are, and please watch your footsteps.
You might need a summer jacket and definitely sunglasses, sun hat, good suntan lotion, and all the other things summer weather requires, even if it is only going to be short thirty to forty days.
