This is a cooking series inspired by writing my novels. I guess, this would be a quick eating series.

“Hey Nina, what are some simple breakfasts?” asks Lionel to Nina.

“Let’s define what a simple breakfast is,” says Nina.

“I would consider a simple breakfast is anything that requires less than 15 minutes that is from the time it takes you to prepare to sit down to eat.”

“Another words, no cooking involved breakfast, right?” asks Nina.

“Well, as long it is fifteen minutes or under,” replies Lionel.

“Well, I don’t know why don’t we make a list.  Let’s brainstorm, you and I. Let’s start,” Nina says.

“Ladies first,” says Lionel.

“All right, All right, here we go.”

The simple breakfast list

1.    Cereal with milk

2.    Cereal with milk and toppings –fruit and nuts.

3.    Instant oatmeal

You can add dry fruits like raisins on or add fresh fruits, seed, and nuts. What does your tongue crave?

4. Plain nuts. What is your favorite and go for it?

Almonds

5.    Yogurt parfait

You can make this simple as having some yogurt with one fruit or various fruits.  Alternatively, you can make it more fancy by adding more fruits and some nuts, and even some coconut.  Toppings are your favorite things you like to munch and crunch.

6.    Boiled egg

“Boiling egg wouldn’t be simple, as this would require turning on the stove, waiting for the water to boil, and then timing the egg.   Some of us are in a hurry as I know,” says Lionel.

“You are right. If you don’t have the time, patience or the fortitude, skip to something else.  Besides by the time, the water boils to the right temperature and the egg is cooked just right based on your liking of the yolk, …well, fifteen minutes may have been passed,” says Nina.

(I will reserve the making of a boiled egg in another novel, Peach Pie Brings Snow).

7.    Protein shake

8.    Store brought waffles

Put it in the toaster, and it is done in less than five minutes. Have it with a glass of your favorite juice.

9.  Speaking of your favorite juice, why not turn that into a smoothie?

“Make a smoothie cereal?” asks Lionel.

“Is there such thing as smoothie cereal?”

 “Yea, there is.”

“Instead of drinking the smoothing you can spoon it like cereal.  Make the smoothie and then add fresh fruits on top of it like blueberries, or strawberries. Add walnuts or almonds.  Scoop your fruits and nuts.”

10.    A fruit plate. However, to prepare the fruit plate would take time.  So I would say quick fruits like grapes, oranges, and berries.

11.    Bagels and cream cheese. “Jeez, no one can beat the bagels from the East Coast,” says Nina.

“Yea, this would have to be store bought since it would take time to bake the bagel,” says Lionel.

“Well, there are some good Portland bakeries. So why, not get the bagel from there?” says Lionel.

12. Bakery goods from a baker

Bakery Croissant

13.    Cottage cheese or a cheese board of your choice

14.    Dry toast, toast with butter, or toast with butter and jelly and a fruit

15.    Muffins – premade or store bought

16.    Granola bars – premade or store bought

17.    Leftover pizza

“Yea Nina, I think I have a few to work with, but I will start on that day after tomorrow,” says Lionel.

What do the people in Cranberry Moon Eat for breakfast?

Some of the characters in the interactive novel Cranberry Moon Empire are vegan or at least is trying to be vegan.  Newton is trying to be vegan, but he hasn’t given up on fish.  He loves salmon.  Baked salmon is his favorite.  He also likes salmon lox on his bagels.  He eats it dry on his bagels.  A breakfast item he would eat would be cereal with almond milk.   Why not add some raspberries too, Newton?  Yea, he would.  He would toss one in and then pour his cereal and then his almond milk, then his raspberries.   It would look something like this.

Few of the characters are very health oriented and may take a protein shake.  Others are trying to be healthy and may opt a fruit plate, cheese plate, or a yogurt parfait.  Others are too busy, and they want to grab something and go.   Though some are trying to be health conscious, sometimes they prepare the food that is quickest to eat.

Victoria tried to be vegan, but I think her moving away might have put a dent on that.  She would agree that sometimes, in new places, it is hard to find good vegan food, unless you been there a while.  She is not going to give up. She is still seeking stores that carries good products in her new place.

Who else in the Cranberry Moon Empire would like to eat the oats cereal?

Nina and Victoria.

If Victoria were to eat cereal, I would say she would eat it just plain or with some nuts.

If Nina were to eat cereal, she would add probably add a fruit. Since she is trying to learn more about food and is trying to eat more fruits, I would say she eats cereal with a banana.  Nina doesn’t mind experimenting with her food.  She would be having fun in the kitchen doctoring things up and trying out new things. She doesn’t eat many fruits in the morning, so she is going to add it to her cereal.

This is how she would start her day with cereal.   She is going to have a little fun.  Here is a short demonstration.

What would CB eat?

I would say she would opt for the cold leftover pizza.  She will eat cereal with whole milk, too.  She loves her cheese board and her favorite berry.
